I’m not 100% satisfied with a lot of the guitar tabs that are up online for The Origin of Love, from the movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Some of them don’t have all the lyrics, making them hard to sing and play at the same time, and others don’t sound good to me. Here’s how I’ve been playing it. I’ve cobbled this version together from various sources with a few of my own modifications. I know it’s not perfect, but it sounds pretty good to me.

D They had two sets of arms. F#m G They had two sets of legs. They had two faces peering Out of one giant head Em So they could watch all around them A As they talked; while they read. G A D And they never knew nothing of love. G A D G It was before ohh the origin of love. D G The origin of love Bm And there were three sexes then, One that looked like two men D Glued up back to back, G Called the children of the sun. Bm And similar in shape and girth Were the children of the earth. D They looked like two girls G Rolled up in one. A And the children of the moon Bm Were like a fork shoved on a spoon. C#m They were part sun, part earth Bm A Part daughter, part son. D G D G ohhh The origin of love D* Now the gods grew quite scared D/B Of our strength and defiance G And Thor said, G "I'm gonna kill them all G With my hammer, G Like I killed the giants." G And Zeus said, "No, You better let me D Use my lightening, like scissors, Like I cut the legs off the whales And dinosaurs into lizards." F#m Then he grabbed up some bolts G And he let out a laugh, Em Said, "I'll split them right down the middle. A Gonna cut them right up in half." G A D And then storm clouds gathered above G Into great balls of fire Bm G And then fire shot down From the sky in bolts, Like shining blades Of a knife. Bm G And it ripped Right through the flesh Of the children of the sun And the moon G And the earth. Bm And some Indian god Sewed the wound up into a hole, Pulled it round to our belly G To remind us of the price we pay. Bm And Osiris and the gods of the Nile G Gathered up a big storm Em To blow a hurricane, Bm To scatter us away, G In a flood of wind and rain, Em And a sea of tidal waves, Bm To wash us all away, G And if we don't behave Em They'll cut us down again G And we'll be hopping round on one foot D G And looking through one eye. G You were looking at me. A I was looking at you. D You had a way so familiar, Bm But I could not recognize, G Cause you had blood on your face; A I had blood in my eyes. D But I could swear by your expression Bm That the pain down in your soul G A Was the same as the one down in mine. D That's the pain, Bm Cuts a straight line G Down through the heart; A We called it love. D So we wrapped our arms around each other, Bm Trying to shove ourselves back together. D It was a cold dark evening, Bm Such a long time ago, G A When by the mighty hand of Jove, D It was the sad story How we became Bm Lonely two-legged creatures, G It's the story of A The origin of love. D G That's the origin of love. Oh Yeah D G The origin of love D G The origin of love Ah ah ah oh D The origin of love
Here’s me playing it:
Hi,
Amazing Blog. I will surely come back often. I am especially interested on articles on Learning Guitar Online.. Looking forward for some interesting articles in future
I’m just learning how to play guitar and really appreciate this site. I have a Daisy Rock! Maybe I’ll actually be able to play a son!
Thanks or posting this. One small adjustment, I feel like the first F#- comes a measure too soon ( starts over ‘They had two faces peering’ ) Or maybe I’m remembering wrong.
